25 Fun and Easy Ways to Support GENI
The idea here is to show that, no matter how tight
your budget, or how busy your schedule, you can finds
ways to make a difference just by tapping into the
things you already do, the money you already spend,
and the people you already see. Everyone loves to
contribute to the lives of others – make it easy for
them!
This is just to get your creative juices flowing… I’m
sure you will see more great ideas as your community
gets involved.
Can you spare a dime…or a nickel…or a penny?:
- Gather up spare change lying about your life
– Empty those pockets and purses, lift up those
sofa cushions, check those nooks and crannies in
the car.
- Make it a habit – Each day empty any change
from your pockets or purse into a special jar for
GENI. (Ask your friends & family to join you
in either of the above).
- Dollar Days – Think of all the people you
know who would send you a dollar for no particular
reason at all – just because you asked. Ask them
all to help you support GENI (and, of course, they
can send more than one!)
- Good to see you – Do you meet with any
group of people regularly? Ask your mother’s group,
sailing club, bowling buddies – whomever – if they
would agree to pitching in a dollar each time they
see you until GENI’s vision is complete.
- Happy Birthday! – Got a birthday coming
up in the next 52 weeks? Ask everyone who would
usually send you a card, buy you a drink, or shop
for a present, to give you the equivalent amount
in cash instead to GENI.
- Throw yourself a party – and charge admission!
Your friends can make a donation at the door and
proceed to celebrate with you.
- Clearing Clutter – Clean out that garage
and those closets and hold a yard sale to benefit
GENI. Invite your friends and neighbors to join
you – who doesn’t have excess stuff?
- Do it on eBay – Take a look around your
house for all those items that can fetch a decent
price online. Put them up for auction and donate
the proceeds to GENI.
- Do it on eBay even more – Are you an eBay
savvy type with a good seller’s rating? Offer to
help out the newbies by handling the listing of
items on your account. Let all your friends know
what you are up to, and invite them to donate items.
- Healthy Habits – Do the math to see what
each cigarette you smoke is costing you. Cut out
a few cigarettes a week and put that money to better
use.
- Cut back the caffeine – Put the $3.00 for
that fancy Starbucks Latte into GENI.
- Give your arteries a break – Skip the fries,
and fatten up GENI instead!
- Ante up for GENI on game night! – Next
time you get together for "game night"
with your friends, make it interesting! Everyone
pays a few bucks to join the Scrabble or Pictionary
game, and anyone who loses coughs up an additional
dollar for GENI.
- Movie night – Get your movie buff friends
together for regular video/DVD nights. Charge $5.00
a ticket (and a little more for the popcorn!)
- More wine please – You know all those bottles
of wine you collect when people bring them as gifts?
Pop the corks for a wine tasting party at $10.00
a head.
- Raises for GENI – If you are a supplier/client
of GENI’s you know what a bargain it is! Next time
you pay GENI for services, give GENI a raise by
adding 10%, 20% or more to the amount of the check
(client) creating a 20% additional discount (supplier).
- Let’s do lunch – Start brown bagging it
more often and contribute the money you save to
GENI.
- Gourmet Sandwiches – Good at whipping up a tasty sandwich? Offer to
bring lunches for your co-workers to sell on behalf
of GENI.
- Stop whining and dine – Next time someone
wants to pick up the tab for lunch out – don’t argue!
Accept with thanks and tell them you’re donating
the money you would have spent to GENI
- STOP Giving it Away! – You know all those
things you do to help your friends without giving
it a second thought? For the next few months, let
them know you will be charging a nominal fee for
that help with heavy lifting, computer advice, babysitting,
etc. Add a few new services to your repertoire (how
about mowing lawns or running errands) and get the
word out that you are available for hire for GENI!
- Grow it for GENI – Let those people you
shower with the extra produce from your garden know
that you’ll be selling it at a bargain price for
a while.
- START Giving it away! – What do you do
professionally? Can you offer up some of your services
– a haircut, a gift certificate, a free consultation?
The buyer gets the full value, but makes the check
out to support GENI.
- Never Hurts to Ask – Invite anyone you
do business with to do their version of item 22.
Your manicurist or handyman would probably be happy
for the PR opportunity!
- Catch Me if You Can – Working on breaking
a habit, like biting your nails or swearing? Tell
everyone you know that, each time they catch you
doing "that thing", you will contribute
50 cents, $1.00, whatever, to GENI. In a speech club? Count the "ums" and "ahs" and collect a predetermined amount for each.
- Create a Competition – Issue a challenge
to the people in your life! See who can get the
largest donation from a total stranger, or who can
come up with the most unusual way to meet this weeks’
money pledge. (It’s amazing what some people will
come up with when their competitive juices kick
in!)
