Yearly solar radiation

The map shows the anticipated availability of solar energy on a horizontal surface per year (so-called global radiation) in kWh/m²a. The total global radiation over the area of Switzerland is 50'000 TWh per year, corresponding to an average power of 5'700 GW.

In principle, every part of Switzerland is suitable for decentrally exploiting solar energy. The middle and southern Alpine regions, especially the Valais Alps and the Upper Engadine, exhibit a particularly high availability of energy. This brings the production of solar energy closer to rentability compared to the other regions.
