 City of Austin goes 100% renewableOct. 14, 2011 - Kari Williamson - renewableenergyfocus.comThe City of Austin, Texas, USA, has switched to 100% renewable energy with all facilities from neighbourhood libraries and recreation centres to police and fire stations subscribing to Austin Energy’s GreenChoice® renewable energy. The City of Austin is now subscribing to about 400 GWh of renewable energy. The renewable energy will be produced at a wind farm in West Texas. Austin Energy has announced it is acquiring more renewable energy supplies from wind farms in South Texas, which are expected to be operational by the end of 2012. The action by the City of Austin fulfills the Austin Climate Protection Plan goal of all municipal facilities to be powered 100% with renewable energy by 2012.
