China Makes Breakthrough in Wind Power Technology
in Plateau

QINGHAI, July 27, SinoCast -- China has made breakthrough
in wind power technology in Qinghai plateau area.
A research on wind turbine unit adaptive to Qinghai
wind resource and grid-connected test just passed
expert review, which fills in the gap of large
vertical-axis wind turbine unit in China.
The wind turbine adopts large vertical-axis double-layer
asymmetric airfoil H-shape structure and is equipped
with high-strength composite blades and electromagnetic
brake. Particularly, the 750kW vertical-axis wind
turbine features lower install and maintenance cost
and lower unit generation cost, which has been in
grid-connected operation in Riyue Mountain wind farm
and is ready for industrialization production.
The research has made applications for four utility
model patents and four patents of invention with
regard to core technologies in large structure of
vertical-axis wind turbine. The utility model patents
have been granted.
Qinghai is rich in wind energy but local wind power
industry has been technologically restricted due
to high altitude, low wind density and frequent changes
in wind directions. The research will help improve
Qinghai's wind power equipment manufacturing and
extend wind energy industry chain.
