Power Projects and Tariffs
The Maharashtra Electric Supply Corporation (MSEB)
influences power tariffs in the city of Mumbai through
the prices it charges for supplying power to BEST,
BSES and their main supplier,
the Tata Electricity Company (TEC).
The tariff structure is controlled by central government
and its agencies, which approve the rates at which
MSEB buys power from primary producers.
The MSEB has a graded tariff structure, which is
substantially lower for rural areas and agricultural
users. In urban areas, domestic consumers are charged
less per unit than commercial and industrial users.
This tariff structure is passed on to consumers by
utility companies like the BEST
and BSES.
