Vietnam to Import 3.8bn kWhs Power
From China in 08
Jan 17 , 2008 - SinoCast
Vietnam will import 3.8 billion kilowatt-hours of
electricity from China in 2008, including 1.7 billion
kilowatt-hours imported in the first five months,
said the state-owned Electricity of Vietnam (EVN)
recently.
EVN estimates that the country's demand for electricity
would be 15.9% more than that in 2007. Moreover, the
reservoirs, rivers and lakes in the northern part
are mostly at low water level in the first five months
- its dry season, and that affects its hydropower
generation.
Vietnam's demand for electricity is anticipated to
grow by 10% to 15% in 2010. EVN estimates that the
electricity sector would need investments of around
USD 43.1 billion from now until 2015, including about
CNY 29.2 billion in power station construction.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung previously said the
nation aimed to let its installed capacity of power
generation double to 28 million kilowatt-hours by
2010, and it welcomed foreign investments in the infrastructure
sectors.
EVN is the largest electricity power producer and
the exclusive electricity seller in the country.
