The Powerful Planet

A one hour documentary

"There is no energy shortage, there is no energy crisis, there is a crisis of ignorance."

These words, spoken by Buckminster Fuller over 20 years ago, ring even more true today. His answer to what is seen as an "energy crisis" was to prove there is enough energy for everyone to enjoy a quality standard of living without destroying our planet. Fuller's solution — a global electric network.

The linking of electrical transmission across time zones, east to west, and seasonal variations, north to south, currently allows utilities to level demand patterns and make the most efficient and economic use of remote energy sources. Fuller projected that interconnected grids between countries and continents would be possible with today's technology, transcending political and geographic boundaries. He was right.

The feasibility and impact of such a network has been corroborated several times during the past year. Now it is time to educate the masses as to the desirability of this plan.

"Power for the Planet", designed for distribution to international broadcast systems, is currently being produced as a major tool in achieving this goal.

The documentary will highlight the genius of Buckminster Fuller and the original critical thinking from the World Game simulation. The benefits of linking the power systems between nations and regions will be featured. Ultimately, the viewer will realize a fundamental paradigm shift in thinking, from a belief in energy scarcity to an awareness of abundance.

Experts say that global interconnections will have the following major impacts on developed and developing nations:

  • reduction of polluting energy sources
  • reduction of population growth
  • military conversion to civilian jobs
  • reduction of third world debt
  • decrease in world hunger
  • increase trade and international cooperation

These will be explained, illustrated, analyzed and discussed by authorities in the field.

Everywhere we see documentaries exposing the doom and gloom of our planet, yet very few offer solutions. "Power for the Planet" will present a viable option that could, with intentional cooperation, exist today.

A independent, international team of film and video production experts is currently producing this one hour documentary. The team includes the following individuals:
