The GENI Initiative had its origins with the World Game simulation, developed
by Buckminster Fuller. The World Game reviews global resources,
trends and strategies towards the mission:

How do we make the world work for 100% of humanity in the shortest possible
time through spontaneous cooperation without ecological damage or disadvantage
        to anyone?

Since 1989, GENI has been focused on the "highest priority objective"
identified by those experts the interconnection of electric power
grids between regions and nations with an emphasis on tapping local and
remote renewable energy resources. How naive I was to think the world
would line up to implement this strategy in three years.
Being older and wiser, I understand the gestation rate of power projects
can be 10 or more years. In a world where 1.6 billion people (25% of the
planet) have no electrical energy, I assumed the process would move more
quickly. Finally, we see a breakthrough in commitments and energizing
of international grid connections on every continent.
For years I pondered how "spontaneous cooperation" occurs in
society. It seemed that this too had a gestation rate and was difficult
to influence. I offer the opinion-editorial "Through
Spontaneous Cooperation" for your consideration. Please feel
free to share this with your own networks and media contacts. We need
to encourage more spontaneous cooperation between nations if we want to
tackle the issues of peace, poverty, pollution and population growth.
