Budapest, 10 August 2000.
We have received Your letter to Mr.
Viktor Orban, the Prime Minister of Hungary on the
proposal for the UN Millennium Assembly.
Hungary -- as associated country to the European
Union -- has committed itself to the creation of an
efficient energy market functioning as an integrated
part of the single European energy market. We realise,
that the society and the economy are dependant on
the energy infrastructure. Energy is a determining
factor in the economy's competitiveness, has a major
influence on living standards, social welfare, and
environment. Hungary makes considerable efforts to
liberalise it's electricity industry. The new act
on the liberalisation of the electricity industry
has been submitted to the Hungarian Parlianment this
year.
Hungary is the associated member of theUCTE (Union
for the Coordination of the Transmission of Electricity),
the member of CENTREL (Regional Group of the four
Central-Eastern European System Operators), and is
interconnected to the neighbouring countries. We consider
the interconnection of electricity grids highly essential.
Hungary commits itself to make the fullest possible
contribution and support to Your goal, and planetary
strategy.
Yours sincerely,
Andras
