The Nepali government and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) have signed a 1.9 million-U.S.-dollar rural energy project for a period of three years.
In a statement issued by the UNDP here Tuesday, UNDP said while it is contributing the fund for the project, World Bank parallel funding of 3.8 million dollars for the project goes to the communities through the Alternative Energy Promotion Center -- executing agency for the project.
UNDP said that in an over two-and-half year period from 2007, the project will deliver 1.7 megawatt of community managed micro- hydropower. Similarly it will provide 2,200 toilet-connected biogas plants, 9,000 improved cooking stoves and 550 solar home systems to 20,000 households in Nepal.
